The Cove : Julie. L Spencer

Book Review Of "The Cove"  |  Julie L. Spencer
PLOT: 3.8/5
CHARACTERS: 4/5
WRITING STYLE: 3.8/5
CLIMAX: 3.5/5

Unique & Interesting, this story about a young athlete with a lot of quandaries in her love life was successful in getting me involved in the story.

When I read a few other reviews before actually going through the book, I found people talking that not everyone will be able to relate to or say, some who are not familiar with the church will get a wrong idea of the rituals of Mormons. Well, I personally got interested in researching that stuff and I’m curious about getting to know more about it. I didn’t know much about those rituals before I read the book and I’m yet not making any wrong conclusion until I’m going to study it.
Anyhow, coming back to the story:
If I talk about the plot and story, it was a new thing to read. Characters were strong and were developed to the state that the reader would be able to think of how those characters would react in a given situation. The chapters and their endings in particular are very well crafted, though the 1st chapter didn’t had an apt hook. Every chapter ends in such a way without leaving questions but still making the reader curious to what happens next!

The Protagonist: Gail Pederson. You are going to love her, judge her and have pity on her. Sometimes you’ll get mad on her too. Finally, the most difficult question gets answered but there is no way to bring her dream to reality (at least that is what she thought) thinking of what everyone is going to think of her. If you’re a girl, you’ll get to learn a lot of things from the story, If not what to do, you’ll at least know what not to do! One of the things, the author explains through the story is how hard it is to retain a long distance relationship.

The author has a writing style to carve things into paper so beautifully and naturally with such details & that too without boring the reader that it barely felt like I’m reading a novel. I felt as if I’m watching a movie. Almost everything was imaginable as I read.

I felt a bit bored at some parts of the story but it was worth it to go through those for the twists to be revealed. You will also find some comedy where it is least expected in the midst of all the serious scenes. A lot of twists and turns make the story interesting and overall a good read. After reading the entire story I can say that it’s not just an “all imagination” fiction story, the author has done quite a bit of research and if you’re a writer like I’m, you’ll find a lot of things to learn from this work of art.
